Roof coatings & refurbishment

Could your roof be refurbished?

Leaks or a deteriorating surface do not always mean starting again. We survey flat, metal and asbestos-cement roofs and tell you what can be repaired rather than replaced.

What is happening to your roof?

Over time, the original covering of a flat, metal or asbestos roof degrades due to being exposed to the sun and the elements. This results in recurring leaks, rust at sheet edges or a worn roof covering. We look at the condition of the roof and its details before recommending a coating or refurbishment.

A member of the Heritage team will tell you during the site survey whether your roof is suitable. We then specify the repairs and coatings your building needs.

Which type of roof do you have?

We work on flat roofs and profiled-sheet roofs, including the gutters, GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) rooflights and other roof components. Explore the relevant service below, or send us an enquiry if you are unsure.

A recommendation based on your roof

Our roofing work covers the UK. We start by understanding the problem and the building it affects. The condition of the existing roof determines which treatments are suitable. Do not climb onto the roof to take pictures.

  1. Tell us what is happening

Send the site location and a description of the problem. Existing photographs, inspection reports and details of previous repairs are helpful.

    Arrange a roof survey
  2. Survey the roof

We inspect the covering and relevant roof details, looking at deterioration, drainage and potential points of water entry.

  3. Understand the recommendation

We explain the work we recommend and set out the preparation, repairs and coating system in your quotation. You can see what is included and why.

  4. Plan and complete the work

We discuss access and how the building is used, then plan the work accordingly. After application, we inspect the finished work and explain any maintenance requirements.

Before you book a survey

Can every roof be coated or encapsulated?

Not every roof. A member of the Heritage team will assess the roof type, construction, condition and the extent of any existing deterioration during a site survey before recommending the appropriate treatment.

Do you work on flat, metal and asbestos roofs?

Yes, but through different methods of application and products. Liquid flat roof encapsulation is for suitable commercial and residential flat roofs. Metal and asbestos roof coatings and cut edge corrosion treatment are for roof coverings of a profiled-sheet nature.

Do you remove asbestos roofs?

No. Heritage may consider coating and encapsulation for a suitable asbestos-cement roof, but does not offer asbestos removal. Where encapsulation is not the right route, the alternatives are an overclad system or removal and replacement. Where removal is the right route, we can facilitate it.
